Professional masonry estimating tool

Masonry Calculator

Estimate bricks, CMU blocks, AAC blocks, stone veneer, thin brick, mortar, grout, adhesive, openings, waste, weight, and optional material costs with a contractor-style workflow.

Material estimator only

This calculator estimates material quantities. Structural masonry, reinforced walls, retaining walls, foundations, fire-rated assemblies, and code-governed work require local code review and qualified design.

Project type

Select the masonry assembly you want to estimate.

Brick Calculator

Net wall area / brick face area, with openings and waste.

Number of wall sections with the same dimensions. Openings are entered per wall section and multiplied by this count.

Assumed manufacturer coverage in bricks per 60 lb bag. Confirm the product data sheet.

Assumed manufacturer coverage in bricks per 80 lb bag. Confirm the product data sheet.

Waste presets

Waste allowance is applied to unit counts and ordering estimates.

Openings

Subtract doors, windows, and other openings from one wall section. If identical walls are entered, these openings are multiplied with each wall.

No openings added.

How the masonry calculations work

Net wall area

Wall length times height minus all openings. Waste is applied after net area is calculated.

Unit count

Brick, block, AAC, stone, and thin brick quantities use face coverage plus mortar or joint allowance.

Mortar and grout

Mortar, grout, and adhesive estimates use practical planning factors and bag yields. Manufacturer coverage can vary.

Costs

Optional prices multiply recommended order quantities, so waste is included in the cost estimate.

Masonry Calculator FAQ

How much masonry waste should I include?

Use about 5% for a simple layout, 10% for a typical project, 15% for many cuts, and 20% for complex layouts, corners, repairs, or mixed materials.

Do openings reduce the masonry count?

Yes. Door, window, and other opening areas are subtracted before units, mortar, waste, and cost are estimated.

Are brick and block counts exact?

They are planning estimates based on unit face size, mortar joint, openings, and waste. Real projects vary with layout, cuts, bond pattern, field conditions, and manufacturer dimensions.

Does this calculator design structural masonry?

No. It estimates material quantities only. Structural masonry, retaining walls, reinforced CMU, foundations, and engineered work must follow local codes and qualified design.

When should I consider grout delivery?

Large CMU projects with many filled cells may justify grout delivery or pump placement. Small projects are usually mixed on-site.
